Equities rise in the US, EUR plummets
FXStreet (Córdoba) - Equities were rising in the US while finished higher across Europe, where the FTSE 100 rose 30 points or 0.45% to 6,706; the Dax climbed 0.70% and the Cac 40 1.25%. In Wall Street the Dow Jones was gaining 0.55% and the S&P 500 was rising 0.42% , still below 2,000.
Economic data from the US showed that new home sales jumped 18% in August to an annual rate of 504,000 reaching a 6-year highs.
Among currencies, the euro was falling sharply across the board, EUR/USD reached a fresh 2014 low, under 1.2800. The pound was algo falling against the US dollar. Commodity currencies erased losses after bouncing in the first hours of the American session.
Gold was hovering below $1,220/oz, slightly lower, retreating further after reaching yesterday $1,236. Crude oil was rising 0.15%, with the barrel above $91.50, supported by a decline in inventories, as reported by the Energy Information Administration.
