US Stocks likely to extend gains
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The stock markets in the US are likely to extend gains in early trading today, after ending notable high in the previous session. The major index futures are currently pointing to a strong opening on Wall street.
At the time of writing, the DJIA futures traded 0.91% higher at 17665.5 while the S&P 500 futures traded 0.79% higher at 2035.45. Meanwhile, the NASDAQ futures and the Russell 2000 futures are trading 0.82% and 0.93% higher at 4186.40 and 1182.50 levels respectively. Consequently, the S&P 500 VIX futures are trading 3.18% lower at 18.28 levels.
The stocks are likely to extend the gains since the Fed minutes released yesterday reassured that interest rates will not be hiked till late April. Remarks from Chicago Fed President Charles Evens suggesting that it could be a "catastrophe" to begin raising rates too early has also helped index futures gain strength.
On the data front, the labor department report released today said initial jobless claims edged down to 294K, a decrease of 4K from the previous week's level of 298K. Economists had expected jobless claims to dip to 290K.
